Works on Paper
Drawings and monotypes (one-of-a-kind prints) and an occasional painting-on-paper constitute Mike’s 2-dimensional offerings. Never known to be a minimalist, Mike draws from his toolbag of favorite shapes and iconography to construct works that are both visually and intellectually interesting. He tends to work in a series until he exhausts an idea.
Drawings
The drawings are primarily made with charcoal and/or pastel. Since moving back to the Pacific Northwest images of fish, birds, and boats have received a lot of his attention. Each series is categorized by the primary imagery or theme. They range in size from 20” x 24” to 38” x 50”.

Prints
Most of the series of monotypes are non-representational with an occasional figurative series of, for example, stylized dogs, angels, or female form. In many of the prints Mike incorporates a chine colle technique which translates as “cut and paste” or “tear and repair” as Mike refers to it. The prints are done on archival paper. They have a contemporary look combined with a timeless quality.
